When you’re craving red meat, craving massive steakhouse-worthy portions, or just don’t want to cook in the evening, nothing beats the Texas Roadhouse. This restaurant has something for every carnivore in your life – the chain offers a huge selection of ribs in sauce, country-fried classics and what seems like every cut of steak under the sun. Texas Roadhouse takes things a step further than your typical steakhouse chain by allowing customers to top their steaks with gravy, cheese and more, while offering a wide selection of fried entrees that really hit the spot with diners.
If you’re on a strict diet or just want to avoid a ton of fat and salt, dining at Texas Roadhouse can feel like navigating a minefield. You can choose to order a salad or grilled salmon if you want something that won’t sink your diet plan for the week, but if you hit that channel you’ll probably want to dig into fried pork chops or a large medium. – rare sirloin.
Of all the meal combinations and orders you might place in a restaurant, you might expect porter pan-seared in butter or fried chicken to be the most unhealthy options on the menu. If you need to stick to your diet, you can start by avoiding finger foods and the least healthy Texas Roadhouse menu item.

“After reviewing the nutritional information on the menu, cactus flower is the worst thing to order at Texas Roadhouse,” Jesse Feder, RDN, CPT at My Crohns and Colitis Team said Eat this, not that!
“This item is the worst for several reasons. It has the most calories (2,250 to be exact) on the menu and it’s just an appetizer. 2,250 calories is more than you should be eating in a day for the average person. It’s also contains 135 grams of fat, 26 grams of saturated fat and 36 grams of sugar! It has very little nutritional value and is the worst thing to order.

The Cactus Blossom isn’t just more than a day’s worth of calories and fat – the item is also loaded with salt. The item contains 5,000mg of salt, which means you would consume more than two days worth of salt if you ate this whole appetizer in one sitting. Although cactus flower looks incredibly bad from a health perspective, it only gets worse when you factor in dipping sauces.

“Adding additional sauces may [add] several hundred extra calories and grams of fat at your command,” Feder explained.
Even if you hit Texas Roadhouse with the intention of ordering a salad, a piece of grilled fish, or another healthier menu item, you can undo all of your food progress with that menu item. If you’re craving an appetizer but don’t want to fill up on the fat, you can grab a cup of Texas Red Chili with beans for a well-portioned entrée that doesn’t have a ton of calories or salt.

Although the Cactus Blossom easily ranks as the most unhealthy item on the Texas Roadhouse, that doesn’t mean you can just eat everything else on the menu.
