If you’ve ever been to a Texas Roadhouse — and it’s something every steak lover should do at least once — you’ll know that the biggest problem facing the chain is space. Trying to go to a Texas Roadhouse during prime time on a Friday or Saturday night is like going to Times Square on New Year’s Eve: dumb at best. The chain is fully aware of this major drawback and is addressing it in its latest restaurant, which is its largest location to date.
The new Texas Roadhouse in Lubbock, Texas, which opened Feb. 8, replaces another location in the same area that lasted more than 20 years. “It’s bigger than the one we had before, it’s frankly the biggest Texas Roadhouse in the world right now,” Texas Roadhouse Lubbock managing partner Mike Smith told EverythingLubbock.com.

What’s bigger? All! The new location has over 200 parking spaces, 20% more table space and a larger kitchen. The chain has even expanded the waiting area that gets a lot of action in the busy Texas Roadhouse venues. “We have a new waiting room… It’s bigger than we’ve ever had before.” said Smith. A larger waiting room could be the perfect opportunity for the restaurant to sell cocktails to the waiting crowd. The chain, whose cut-price steaks are the draw, makes most of its money from higher-priced cocktails and upselling.
A local news station report also said the location has a heated patio, which makes sense given that customers waiting for a table at the Texas Roadhouse often spill into the area outside the restaurant. . No word on what types of entertainment will be offered in the new space, but some outdoor spaces at Texas Roadhouse are offering games like Cornhole to keep waiting customers happy.
The location also has a new addition that Texas Roadhouse began testing in new restaurants in 2020, after the pandemic decimated business: a drive-thru. Upgrading old locations appears to be in the plans for the chain, which last year set a goal to increase its current footprint from 526 restaurants to 900 locations.
The chain was the fourth-largest casual dining chain by units in the United States in 2021, but it generated average unit volumes of over $6 million, the highest in the casual dining segment. Texas Roadhouse doesn’t seem to be slowing down and is on its way to becoming the largest casual dining chain in the country.
