Although the McDonald’s name conjures up classic menu items like the Big Mac and Chicken McNuggets, the fast-food giant also pioneered some iconic sweet treats. After all, it would be hard to separate the famous burger brand from its McFlurries, Shamrock Shakes or hot apple pies.
But McDonald’s could soon become your next destination for fresh donuts as the chain steps up an exciting partnership with Krispy Kreme.
McDonald’s kicked off the Krispy Kreme partnership in 2022 with a soft launch of donuts in nine select Kentucky locations. This test is now set for massive expansion to approximately 160 locations in Louisville, Lexington and surrounding areas of Kentucky. Restaurants will begin selling the donuts on March 21.
Customers will be able to purchase three fan-favorite Krispy Kreme flavors: the Original Glazed Donut, the Chocolate Glazed Donut with Sprinkles, and the Chocolate Kreme Glazed Filled Donut. The raspberry filled donut, offered in the initial test, appears to have been replaced by the Kreme Glazed Chocolate Filled Donut in the wider rollout.
McDonald’s said in a statement that the larger rollout will help the company better understand customer demand for treats and the operational impact of their larger-scale offering. As for Krispy Kreme, the expanded test will serve as a litmus test of fast food partnerships.

In another change from the smaller test, which only allowed customers to order Krispy Kreme donuts at the restaurant and drive-thru, the expanded test will offer the treats for purchase through delivery and the McDonald’s app.
What doesn’t changed is that the donuts will be available for purchase all day at participating locations, although McDonald’s has warned that opportunities to try them in its stores have an expiration date.
“They’ll only be here for a limited time, while supplies last – so run, walk to the nearest participating McDonald’s to get a taste,” McDonald’s said.
