The history of the formula: True Match has been around for over 20 years. It first appeared on drugstore shelves in 1994 and has been a hit for L’Oreal ever since. L’Oréal’s AVP of Science Communication, Balanda Atis, breaks it down: “This foundation has stood the test of time thanks to the continuous research we conducted to understand the needs of our consumers. When developing the formula, our team of scientists worked to ensure the texture and performance of the formula is relevant to our consumers today. We also studied skin tones for many years to understand tones that suit skin all over the world.
What makes this formula unique: True Match is now formulated with up to six different pigments including white, yellow, red, red, black, ultramarine blue and cobalt green to help you find your most accurate skin tone. Thanks to these pigments, it is able to adapt to all skin colors and textures. Atis also says:True Match is unique because we’ve used science to create a formula our consumers can rely on to deliver superior performance and a match that matches their skin. Our hydrating formula now contains hyaluronic acid, which improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture for long-lasting hydration.”
Why makeup artists love it: Celebrity makeup artist Lisa Aharon also shares a love for True Match. “First and foremost, they really executed the color range beautifully,” she says. “The product itself is fantastic for its buildable coverage, natural finish and long-lasting formula. I think the versatility and range of shades play a major role in its popularity with artists.”
Expert Application Tips: Aaron says:Speaking of application, I most often express that your comfort with a tool is most important. You can press foundation on with your fingertips, apply a damp blender to the skin, or pat it on with a foundation brush. Whatever seems easiest to you, they all work!”
