Before updating Nintendo Switch controllers, you must ensure that they are wirelessly paired with the console. Joy-Cons can be physically attached instead, but both methods work the same. Assuming you have those prerequisites out of the way, you can update controllers with just a few taps or clicks, according to a Nintendo support document.
- Press the home button on the Switch.
- Tap or click the System Settings button.
- Tap or click Controllers & Sensors, then Update Controllers.
- Wait for the update to complete.
Nintendo says these steps work with all Switch models available at the time of writing, including the Switch OLED and Switch Lite (in case it’s paired with the Pro Controller). If you experience a hiccup during the update process that causes it to fail, Nintendo advises you to try again. Still does not work? Check out our full guide on how to fix this issue.
