Samsung has introduced many subtle improvements with the Galaxy S23 and its preloaded One UI 5.1 interface. One of the new features includes a charging bypass option on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. This feature could be very useful for gamers or anyone who wants to take more care of the battery.
The Pause USB Power Delivery feature, found in the Galaxy S23’s Game Booster settings (spotted by NL Tech), allows the phone to deliver input power directly to the processor. This means that the phone battery will not be charged when this feature is active. Bypassing power from the charger directly to the chipset generates less heat, which improves thermal performance and improves performance.
It also helps with battery health. When the phone is not continuously charged, it reduces battery charging cycles, which keeps the battery healthy in the long run. This feature is currently only available on the Galaxy S23 series. We don’t know if it’s limited to newer hardware or if a newer version of Game Booster will bring the feature to older phones as well.
As shown in the image below, the Galaxy S23 Ultra consumes 6W of power when the battery bypass feature is enabled. But when the function is deactivated, the smartphone consumes 17W of energy. Hopefully Samsung will bring it to more Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the future. And it’s strange to see Samsung not even mentioning this feature in its launch event or in the One UI 5.1 changelog.
