The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is claimed to be a “non-drying matte lipstick” with “intensely rich, long-wearing color” and has a “matte velvet finish”. Over time I felt the formula improved from drying (the original launch didn’t fare well on me) to slightly drying (more in the shades that have lasted six to eight hours). Pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is generally semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, slippery feel that doesn’t feel particularly creamy or wet, but the lipstick is comfortable to wear for the four to six hours it typically lasts. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no noticeable taste.
