The latest software update for the carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the US (SM-781U) was something major. It brought Android 13 (One UI 5.0) update with December 2022 security patch to the device. This was probably the last major update for the phone. Today, the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 FE 5G receives another software update in the US, and it improves the security of the device by bringing the January 2023 security patch.
The new software update comes with the firmware version G781USQS9GWA4 and offers the January 2023 security patch. It fixes more than fifty security issues in the phone. The update is currently rolling out to devices across the Dish, MetroPCS, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks in the United States. Devices on other networks should also receive the update in the coming days. Samsung has also made this update available for the international 4G and 5G variants of the devices and the carrier unlocked model.
Once the January 2023 security patch is available for your Galaxy S20 FE 5G, it will notify you. Just tap the notification and click the Download and Install button to get the update. To manually check for the update, go to Settings » Software update and click on Download and install. You can also download the update from our database and flash it manually.
Launched in September 2020, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G has been one of Samsung’s most popular and best-selling smartphones. However, as the device is now three years old, it will not receive new versions of Android. If this is something that concerns you and you are planning to buy a new Samsung phone, you should definitely take a look at the new Galaxy S23 series.
